Old Stomping Grounds and Memories 09/25/2011
Helen was still feeling elated about receiving the postcard from her sweetie! If anyone could make her smile, it was Willie! When he wrote "thinking of you" on the back of that card, he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt it would bring a smile to her face...just what he wanted! Making people smile is something that Willie always had a unique ability to do and would continue for the rest of his life! If you weren't smiling after you left his presence...then buddy, check your spirit, cause something is wrong! This move was so much harder than her other moves up to this point for Helen. As she loaded one box...the kids were eying the one she just finished packing. Yep! This was going to be a challenge! As she wrapped the glasses and plates and carefully placed each one in the box, she would sing to the kids. She let them help, by giving them fun things to do. Being a mom, dad and a mover....hmmm...might as well sing, don't have time to stop and feel sorry for herself! Even though it had been a lot of work, moving day was here and she was so ready!!! She was able to get Shelton to bring his truck to Matthews and help her move into the apartment. Ahhh! Smell that Kewanee air...her old stomping grounds! She would be living right across the street from where she met Willie for the first time at Kewanee School. Also, if you remember, it was in that school at a revival where they both gave their hearts to Jesus. Great memories with warm feelings...yes this was much better! Sondra and Larry were already playing in the front yard of the apartment and having a blast! She was so thankful they played so well together. She was close enough to Kewanee Baptist Church here, she could walk and take her babies to Sunday School. As she looked down the road...she could see mom and dad's house and knew she could go and visit anytime she wanted. Maybe she could use her mom's sewing machine to sew pretty things for her little baby girl. Helen's mind raced as she brought the kids in their new home and started the unpacking process.
