Packing and a postcard! 09/24/2011
Helen was packing again! This apartment above her Aunt and Uncle's garage in Matthews was soon to be a memory. She was thankful that she had been given the opportunity to spend time with her Aunt Violet and would miss her...but she would in no way miss being here where she sat packing her belongings. She thought about Willie and wondered what he was doing today? Was he getting enough rest? In some ways it seems like only yesterday he was working nights and Larry was born. Thinking back she remembers what happened a few days after Larry was born and Willie was exhausted from working nights. He would come home after working at the cotton gin all night and go to bed. They were still in the shotgun house at the time, so the bed was in the same room as everything else. Folks were dropping by the house to see and make over the baby. It was one of those times that Ma Martin came by the house so excited to see Helen's little guy that she got a little loud with her laughter! All of a sudden Willie jumped out of the bed with just his underwear on and started walking around. Helen said, "Willie...you are in your underwear and there is company here!" He just turned around and got back in bed saying nothing. They talked about it the next day laughing...Willie had modeled his underwear and didn't even remember doing it. It was good for Helen to think back to those times, it helped her realize that even though it was tough having a little baby and a husband that worked nights...there were so many good times. And today...she was missing her husband so much, which is why when the mail arrived and there was a postcard from Willie, she was beyond happy. How sweet of him to send this postcard with that bikini clad lady on it! She smiled at the thought of Willie picking it out at the store to send. That nut! She sure loved that nut! It made her giggle to think that the shapely model made her Willie think of her! The next few weeks would hopefully go by quickly and he'd be back with them making more memories! Kentucky.
As a lady who's lived through both good & bad circumstances in my life, I've learned and continue to learn a lot of "life lessons". Along the way I have been inspired to be a better me. God is faithful in ALL circumstances and His love covers all. My hope is that you will be inspired to be who you were meant to be.
