Missing Willie...Sweet Tea and Momma! 10/05/2011
Helen was laying across her bed thinking about Willie...he was going to be gone for such a long time...how will she make it? She promised to write every single day while he was gone and was not going to disappoint him. Writing him before she went to bed would probably be the best time...she could recap her day and then find him in her dreams. She was thankful the kids had went to bed early tonight! She was new at this being a Navy wife, but realized she had to be stronger than ever. These two little children sleeping so peacefully depend on her for their every need. She wiped the tears off her cheek...sniffed and decided first thing in the morning she would walk to the post office and buy some 6 cent air mail stamps, but for tonight she would go to sleep from exhaustion. When Helen woke up the next morning it was with the realization that she was without Willie again. She was determined not to be so sad today...she would play with the kids, make a trip to see her mom and write her first letter to her "Wild Bill" (nickname that he used to sign his cards to her). She and the kids walked to the post office, bought some stamps and headed to her mom's house. She sat on her mom's screened in front porch and watched the kids play in the front yard and would call out to them if they wandered a little too far from the house. She sipped on her mom's sweet tea and sat with her talking about all sorts of things. This helped to make her first day away from Willie a little more bearable. There would be birthdays, holidays and seasons she would face alone without the father of her kids by her side. He would be in harms way...just thinking of this put a knot in the pit of her stomach. Willie would be on that ship for a long time out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean helping to defend his country. She prayed everyday that he would stay safe even in the midst of danger.
