Over the River and Through the Woods... 10/12/2011
Helen has always loved the Christmas season! Everyone just seemed a little nicer during the holidays. Very seldom did you go down the street that someone doesn't say...Have a Merry Christmas! It's during this time of year that your thoughts go towards others and being with family. It was Christmas Eve and Helen and the kids had been invited to spend the night with Grandma Jane and Grandpa Tollison. She jumped at the opportunity to be with them during the holidays...it would make her feel closer to Willie. She could see the resemblance between him and his dad...of course she thought Willie was much nicer looking, but could definitely tell they were father and son. She watched out the living room door for that big ole car with the Watkins products in the back window to head up the road...it would be Frank, her father in law coming to take them to East Prairie to spend a few days. Their little place was heated by a wood stove and would be slightly cramped with the extra bodies, but Missouri Jane and Frank welcomed having their daughter in law and grandbabies there for Christmas. She saw the car coming up the road..."Hey kids! Your Papa Tollison is here!" It was winter weather out there, so she helped them put on their coats and mittens. They ran outside ahead of their mom and hugged Papa's neck. He grabbed the small suitcase and threw it in the trunk as Helen and the kids climbed in the car, excited about their Christmas adventure. Jane was full of love and hugs when Helen, Larry and Sissy got there. There wasn't room for a Christmas Tree, but she had already been making food since the day before. You could smell Christmas in the air...Helen was looking forward to eating someone elses cooking for a couple of days. Her mother in law was a really good cook, making all sorts of delicious dishes on her wood burning cook stove. When they went to sleep that night they were content to be with family and couldn't wait to see what Christmas Day would bring. Comments Your comment will be posted after it is approved. As a lady who's lived through both good & bad circumstances in my life, I've learned and continue to learn a lot of "life lessons". Along the way I have been inspired to be a better me. God is faithful in ALL circumstances and His love covers all. My hope is that you will be inspired to be who you were meant to be. I have been writing this blog about my mom and dad since September of 2011. You can find their story from the beginning by going to the Stories link. Happy Reading!!! ArchivesMarch 2012 |
