Willie is Reintroduced to His Children 10/31/2011
Eunice had picked up Larry and Sondra from the apartment earlier when they were sound asleep so their mommy and daddy could spend some time alone. She carried them home and they didn't wake up for another hour after she put them on her couch. When they woke up from their naps at their Grandma and Grandpa Rhodes house, they were a little confused thinking they would be waking up at home. After Helen and Willie had spent some quality time together, they headed down to Roy and Eunice's to visit with them for a while and pick up the kids. Larry and Sondra were going to have to be reintroduced to their daddy. Helen wasn't the only one that hadn't seen him for 3 years...his children had only seen him in pictures, and Sondra was barely one when he left to go to Bremerton. When they saw their daddy for the first time, I'm not sure what was going through their heads, but they were a little stand offish at first. Helen told them this is daddy and he loved them. With a little coaxing, they both came over to their daddy and sat on his lap...one on each knee and before you know it they were hugging his neck. As they slid off their dad's lap, Roy popped a tab on a beer and handed it to Willie. Willie accepted it, but never took a sip of it while they were there visiting with Eunice and Roy. If you remember, when Roy found out the war was over and Willie would be coming home, he told Helen that her sailor would come home a drunk. Not sure if Roy was trying to prove what he had said earlier by giving Willie that beer, but if he was....it proved nothing, because he didn't even take a tiny drink. Helen found out later Willie had been given beer instead of the water to drink while he was on board ship, but would have much rather have had ice cold water or tea. He was never someone that drank the beer to get drunk like his father in law, but just to have something to drink when he was away. Some of Helen's brothers and sisters sat and listened intently as Willie shared about his promotion and being a part of helping getting so many home to their loved ones. After a story or two, the little Tollison family headed to their home to start to get their life back to normal. Comments Your comment will be posted after it is approved. Leave a Reply | _Author
