Brudder Shewel 11/15/2011
It was Sunday and Helen was feeling pretty good. This pregnancy was much easier on her than when she was carrying Linda. With Linda, every time she would lift her head off her pillow in the morning, she was nauseous! She thought she was actually going to enjoy being pregnant this time. Just as Sundays were special for Willie and Helen when they lived in Kewanee, they were special here too! They had a church that they went to every Sunday! Brother Jewel was the pastor of the little church they attended and he and his wife would come by and pick up the Tollison family and take them to Sunday School each week. Brother and Sister Jewel had been really good to Willie and Helen, so they wanted to be sure and let them know right away that they would be leaving Arkansas soon to head back to Missouri. With another baby on the way, living on the stipend that the Navy provided was going to be too difficult. The Jewel's understood what it was like to try to live on a very limited amount of money...they had even less then Willie and Helen, but were very happy and some of the sweetest folks you could ever know. Brother Jewel absolutely loved little Linda and made over her every time they were around. Linda was so cute when she tried to say his name...she would call him Brudder Shewel. So on this their final Sunday with Brudder Shewel, Linda and the other kids got lots of hugs and Helen teared up a little saying goodbye to some of the best friends they had in Arkansas. They saw something in that couple that really spoke to what being a Christian means...loving God and loving other people. They had truly loved them during their time there. The Jewel's took Willie and Helen and the kids back home after church, but this Sunday was different. They wouldn't be picking them up next Sunday, they would be missing them instead. Helen had made a roast with potatoes and carrots around it and invited their Arkansas friends in for lunch. They wanted to do something special for their sweet friends to express how thankful they had been for their friendship. The Tollison family would soon be headed back to Missouri so that Willie could teach school and take care of the extra mouth to feed. This didn't mean that he had given up on college...not even a chance of that. He would teach school during the school year and use his summers to work toward his degree. This was not a planned pregnancy, but it was nonetheless very much wanted, so they would do whatever they had to do to make this work. Were they excited about moving again? No way! What they were excited about was having a loving family and being together wherever they needed to be. Comments Your comment will be posted after it is approved. Leave a Reply | _Author

As a lady who's lived through both good & bad circumstances in my life, I've learned and continue to learn a lot of "life lessons". Along the way I have been inspired to be a better me. God is faithful in ALL circumstances and His love covers all. My hope is that you will be inspired to be who you were meant to be. I have been writing this blog about my mom and dad since September of 2011. You can find their story from the beginning by going to the Stories link. Happy Reading!!! ArchivesMarch 2012 |
