Carnival's in Town 11/26/2011
Lossy, absolutely loved her new next door neighbors! She was an interesting lady who wore army boots, a scarf on her head and had a little waddle when she walked because she was a stocky woman. She lived in a little one room shack next door to Willie and Helen. When Helen and Willie moved into their new place, they realized that they would have to learn who their neighbors were. It was important to them to be sure that when the children played outside...they would be safe. You can never be 100% sure about your neighbors, but they had a real sense that Lossy was a genuinely sweet lady. She may not have been a church friend, but she was definitely someone that they could trust with their children . _Lossy made Helen aware that if she ever needed anything...she wanted to be able to help. Lossy had a son who was in the army and was away from home a lot of the time. He was a striking young man that loved his mom and he and Linda became buddys. When he was home, he made sure he came over to see her. He loved the other kids too, but Linda had a way of twisting him around her little finger. Since he wasn't a parent, he could play favorites and Linda was his favorite. He was such a kind young man that just had a way about him and Linda enjoyed the attention. Since Jimmy came along, she was having to share her mommy and daddy with him, so having extra attention was pretty cool. Across the street from their new house in East Prairie was a baseball field that was alive with little boys playing baseball during the summer. Towards the end of every summer a carnival came to town and would fill the outfield and surrounding area. There were merry-go-rounds, pony rides, little cars, and all sorts of games with prizes. There was cotton candy, ice cream and various kinds of yummy treats. All the kids were wide eyed just looking across the street. They would ask mom and dad if they could go to the carnival and the answer was always the same..."not today!" As the carnival got into full swing...the food stands would be cooking all sorts of things and the smell would drift across the street to the Tollison house and would be torture to the kids. On one of his visits home, Lossy's son saw the carnival and asked Helen if he could take his little buddy Linda across the street to enjoy a couple of rides. He didn't have enough money to take Larry and Sondra too, but wanted Linda to be able to enjoy it. He came and got her and when they returned about 45 minutes later, Linda was so excited. She had gotten to ride the merry go round and had a teddy bear that he won for her at one of the games. Willie and Helen realized Larry and Sondra would enjoy some time at the carnival too, so later in the week they took them too! Linda got to go two times :-) Comments Your comment will be posted after it is approved. Leave a Reply | _Author
