First Time at Church and a Prophecy 11/22/2011
The doctor assured Helen that Jimmy would be just fine. Adults can run a slight temperature and never show signs of it except maybe being a little warm to the touch. But with tiny babies, that is not the case. Most babies will be a little fussy with the low grade of temp and others, like Jimmy will have what Doc Robertson called "spasms". They are scarey for the mom, but not life threatening for the baby. Helen felt so much better after talking with him. He sent her home with some medicine to give Jimmy for a few months. She did decide to take him to a neurologist to be sure there was not anything neurologically wrong with him. Everything turned out fine there, too...nothing to be concerned about. Since Willie and Helen moved back to Missouri, they started attending Kewanee Missionary Baptist Church again. When they lived here before, they were within walking distance of their favorite church, but now they had to get there by driving from East Prairie. That was no problem, though...Missouri Jane and Frank would stop by, pick up their growing family on Sundays and take them to church. It took some maneuvering to get everyone settled in the car. Who was going to sit on daddy's lap and who would get to ride in the front seat? Usually the youngest got to pick first. They were packed in Frank's car like sardines, so when they got to church, they'd all get out and stretch their legs and backs. Usually the kids wanted to run, but mommy and daddy kept a pretty tight rein on them. They didn't want them getting all sweaty before Sunday School. There were a couple of big differences about Willie and Helen's family since they left Kewanee church. One was obvious...baby Jimmy was here now. The other was a "not so obvious" change in Larry. While they were attending the church in Jonesboro, Arkansas with Brother and Sister Jewel...Larry was "saved" (invited Jesus in his heart). So when he goes to church now, he has a better understanding of what and Who he is studying about. When Jimmy was a week old, he made his first trip to church. When Willie and Helen walked into the church building, everyone made over him and they beamed with pride. Having seen the spasms he had endured over the past few days, they were tickled that he was able to be at church with them. As Helen showed him off to the pastor, Brother Jimmy Gibson...she said, "This is our little preacher!" What an interesting choice of words for Helen to use. Because as most of you know reading this... that is exactly what God had in mind for him too! I'm not sure what prompted Helen to say that to her pastor, but I do know that she wanted great things for Jimmy as she did for all her children.
