It's Off To School We Go 11/13/2011
_Linda had gotten Helen up early for a feeding, so she stayed up and had a cup of coffee. She rocked her little brown eyed girl back to sleep then decided to go to the kitchen and made a pan of hot oatmeal before she woke up the rest of her sleeping family. Willie could smell the coffee and the cinnamon in the oatmeal making him so hungry. He didn't even realize he was hungry until those aromas drifted back to the bedroom. When Helen said "Breakfast is ready!", Willie helped get the kids up and set them at the kitchen table. She toasted the bread in a skillet, buttered it and put Apple Butter on it for the kids. Willie liked his oatmeal with sugar and cream and with buttered toast on the side...finished off with a cup of black coffee. Helen knew what Willie liked to eat for breakfast and made sure he had it every morning. She switched off to Cream of Wheat some mornings and to Eggs Over Easy on other mornings. As long as the kids had their toast and apple butter, they were happy. Larry and Sondra's parents dressed them in layers, so they could stay warm on the walk to catch the city bus. They had to walk up a hill and back down the other side and about two blocks to get to the bus stop, so dressing warm was important. The city bus would take them to another bus stop to catch the school bus that carried them to the elementary school. Sondra was in first grade and was a little nervous going to this big school. Larry was the big brother and stayed brave even though he had a few butterflies in his stomach too. Willie was excited to be back in college, but was more excited at the prospect of making more money after he was finished. He wanted to be able to buy nice things for his wife and children and not worry about how to pay for even the simple things in life, such as food. Since he had experience at LaForge School teaching before the war, he decided that the best choice as a major would be in the Education field. He went to lecture after lecture and took good notes in case the professor would test them on what he said. When class was over each day, he would spend time in the school library to study so when he got home he could focus on his family and not have to crack the books as much there. If you remember, he wanted to have Linda so he could enjoy the things he missed with the other two children while they were babies, so why wouldn't he do everything he could to be able to love on those kiddos. When everyone returned home from school, Helen always had a snack ready for them. They loved when she had made crust and had saved the dough scraps and baked them with cinnamon and sugar on them for their snack. Those were so good with a glass of milk to rinse them down. Today was one of those days...she had made an apple pie and dumplings for supper, so there were lots of dough scraps. Yay!!!!!!!! Comments Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
