Jimmy Turns One and Linda...well...just read! 11/28/2011

Another year had past and it was fast approaching September 1, 1951, little Jimmy's birthday.  He was growing like a weed and was big enough to play outside with Linda.  Linda liked playing with her little brother...they could make the best mud pies in East Prairie...maybe the whole state.  Linda would have to keep explaining to Jimmy that you don't really "eat" the pies...you just act like you are eating them.  Every once in a while he would forget and put a big ole piece of mud in his mouth and gag and spit it out.  It would make Linda laugh and she would tell him once again..."don't eat the pies...just pretend."
Jimmy was happy that all the attention was on him for his birthday.  Mommy had baked him a cake with chocolate icing on it and had put a candle right in the middle.  Daddy lit the candle and helped Jimmy as he huffed and puffed and tried to blow it out.   Linda watched with excitement...wishing she could blow it out...but her birthday was coming in 3 days...so she would be patient.  Jimmy was pulled up close to the table and when the cake was cut, he got the first piece and dug right in.  He had chocolate icing from ear to ear...and when he smiled the icing was all over his teeth.  He sure did enjoy his first birthday cake.

Linda wasn't too concerned with all the attention Jimmy was getting because she had been invited to have dinner with Lossy and her son.  Almost every time he was home on leave from the Army, Lossy would invite Linda over for something.  Today it was dinner, and she was excited.  When it was getting close to time to eat, Helen told Linda that she could walk on over to Lossy's house to eat.  So Linda Bug skipped out the door and ran as fast as her little legs could carry her to have fun and Lossy's place.

Helen had just washed the last dish meaning she finally had the kitchen cleaned up after dinner when Linda came barreling through the door.  She let the door slam behind her which in turn caused her mommy to holler, "quit slamming the door."  To which Linda said "sorry mommy, I just wanted to hurry home and tell you what I had for dinner".  Helen couldn't be mad at her, but she was pretty stern so Linda would know that the next time she came running in...she wouldn't slam the door.

So Helen asked Linda..."What did you have for dinner?" ....Linda answered in her sweet little voice, "Kraut".  Helen asked her "what else did you have?" and Linda said "just kraut!"  Didn't you have meat or another vegetable?...

Nope, Just Kraut and with excitement, Linda said - we ate it right out of the jar!
