Leave Missouri? You bet! 11/10/2011
They had gotten settled in the little house with their family of 5 (Willie, Helen, Larry, Sissy and Linda). It was nice to be in a house again where it was quiet and your neighbors weren't just on the other side of the wall. Sometimes they felt like the walls in their apartment had been paper thin. Willie was still working hard at the Soybean Oil Mill in Ristine bringing home a paycheck. These night shifts and leaving Helen and his 3 children home alone at night was getting old fast. He took that job when he returned from the war so that he could provide for them, but felt like he was away from them when they needed him the most...at night. One afternoon as Sissy and Larry played in the back yard and after Linda had been fed, changed and down for her nap, Willie and Helen had a serious talk about their future. Willie had been thinking about doing something different other than what he was doing on this late night shift. He asked Helen what she thought about them moving to Jonesboro, Arkansas so he could finish college. If you remember, he dropped out of college when he and Helen got married because he needed to work and take care of his family. This move to Jonesboro would put them in the same town as the college and they could live on what they were receiving from their service stipend. Willie knew if they were ever going to make any more money than what he was making at the Ristine Soybean Oil Mill, he would need to return to college. Helen understood the importance of Willie getting his education and didn't hesitate when asked to move to another state. She would miss being so close to her mom, but knew that her home was with Willie, no matter where they lived. Actually Helen was a little excited about the prospect of moving to another state. She had never lived anywhere but Missouri. Arkansas...here we come! Comments Your comment will be posted after it is approved. Leave a Reply | _Author

As a lady who's lived through both good & bad circumstances in my life, I've learned and continue to learn a lot of "life lessons". Along the way I have been inspired to be a better me. God is faithful in ALL circumstances and His love covers all. My hope is that you will be inspired to be who you were meant to be. I have been writing this blog about my mom and dad since September of 2011. You can find their story from the beginning by going to the Stories link. Happy Reading!!! ArchivesMarch 2012 |
