That Familiar Feeling Again!! 11/29/2011
Helen had the turkey in the oven and had just finished mixing up the dressing when she got a familiar feeling in the pit of her stomach. She had been excited to bake a pumpkin pie the night before and knew that the rest of the Thanksgiving meal would have to wait until this morning to finish. Over the last 10 or so years, she had become quite the cook and it was very satisfying to watch her family enjoy her cooking. A lot of people dread getting in the kitchen to prepare a meal, but not Helen...it was one thing that gave her lots of enjoyment. Back to that familiar feeling she was having! As she was washing up the pan used to mix up the cornbread dressing, she realized that she was feeling very nauseous! She had already been through this process four times before, so she knew exactly what was going on. This was morning sickness so there would be another child added to their family. Oh my goodness, Jimmy turned 1 just last month and Linda followed by turning 3. She had never anticipated after Willie came home from the service, and they decided to have Linda... there would be a repeat performance in stair-step fashion. She started to calculate in her head when this new addition would happen. Helen and Willie would have a summer baby this time around...possibly either July or August. Now to tell Willie about the blessing that was headed their way...how would he react to being blessed so quickly after Jimmy? He loved kids and would get used to the idea of having another baby, but she was thinking that the initial shock of having 3 children so close in age would be a challenge. Willie smelled all the delicious aromas coming from the kitchen and whistled as he walked in the room. He stopped and gave Sissy who was helping mom with the meal a kiss on the cheek. His first born daughter was eight going on 18 and had to help mom with setting the table and various other things. Being the older sister meant extra chores for her, but she did them without complaining...she liked the extra attention she got from daddy being the big helper. Helen was at the stove stirring her giblet gravy and had her back to Willie when he came up from behind and touched her back causing her to almost jumped out of her skin. Willie laughed but quickly stopped laughing when she turned around and had the color drained from her face. She told him she was nauseous and needed to tell him something. She let him know that come July of next year there would be another Tollison in the house. He could tell the mother of his children was having a hard time so he gave her a hug. He then said..."All I have to do is hang my pants on the bedpost and another baby is on the way." After the shock of realizing they were adding to their family, they looked around the table at Larry, Sondra, Linda and Jimmy and were so thankful for these blessings....and the new blessing to come.
