A Pink Dress and a Bonnet! 12/28/2011

Down the road from Grandpa and Grandma Rhodes, lived Aunt Louise and Uncle Ed.  They had graciously agreed to let Paula, Linda and Sondra spend a couple of nights with them, while Helen and Willie were in Nashville.  What an adventure this was going to be...playing with their cousins at their house!  If there was fun to be found...they would find it.

_The girls in all their giggly glory, put on their pj's and told stories.  The older girls even read some stories to Paula and Linda!  They had lots of pretend time playing school and playing house.  Of course, Linda and Paula were always the kids of the family while Sondra, Janet and Bonnie would take turns being the mom.

When it started getting late, Louise found a place for everyone to take their pillow and lay their head.  Paula stayed as close to her sissies as possible, she didn't let them out of her sight.  If they went to the bathroom, she was not far behind.  After they had their drink of water and had all went potty, Aunt Louise told them it was time to go to sleep.  She said that she would leave a light on in the bathroom so the house wouldn't be so dark.  If anyone understood little girls, their Aunt Louise did!  She not only had kids of her own, she had also taught school a few years back.

The girls woke up smelling pancakes and homemade maple syrup cooking on the stove.  Sondra, Linda and Paula were sweet little girls and waited until they were asked to come to the table before running to the kitchen.  If Linda or Paula got too excited, Sondra would remind them to stay calm.  They all sat around the big kitchen table, and had their fill of pancakes covered in butter, and soaked in warm maple syrup with a tall glass of ice cold milk.  When breakfast was finished, Sondra got a washrag and washed off the sticky syrup from Linda's and Paula's face and hands.  Paula had it all over her, even had gotten a little bit of it in her hair....she loved her some pancakes.  After Linda's face was clean, she hopped down and went back to the toys to play.

Louise had a surprise for the girls while they were there.  She was going to get out her sewing machine and make them all a new dress.  She had bought several yards of shiny pink material earlier that week when she knew that Helen's girls were going to be there.  Louise was as excellent seamstress and was excited to be able to do something that would make all the girls so happy.

She held up the pattern and sized it to each one of them and cut out the material.  For most people, making that many little dresses would take quite a while to finish, but not for Louise...she was a determined and talented lady.  After finishing all the dresses, she thought that Paula just had to have a Bonnet to match her dress, so she proceeded to get busy making one.

The girls all looked so sweet in their new dresses, and Paula was so cute in her bonnet.   Louise said she needed her picture made in that outfit, as soon as mom and dad get back home from Nashville.

Aunt Louise was impressed at how well behaved and happy Helen's girls were.  It had been a lot of children to have extra at her house, but she didn't mind.
