Country Music and Porter Wagoner 12/29/2011
Willie and Helen are having a great time in Nashville, Tennessee. Yesterday they nearly walked their legs off...but they didn't know when they would get to come back to the music city again. So they walked and walked and walked until they were exhausted. Today would be another day of walking, but they would need to get back to their room in time to get cleaned up for the show they were going to tonight at the Ryman! They had been to several places close to their hotel and were now cleaning up for their nice dinner out. The National Life Insurance had been very generous in the prize that Willie had won. Tonight they were having steak, baked potato, salad and some kind of fancy dessert. They weren't sure what it was, but it was delicious! What a treat to not only eat out, but to have steak...something they would never have bought for themselves. There was a lot of beans and cornbread served at their house - not that there is anything wrong with that - it was just such a luxury to have steak. _When they got to the Ryman Auditorium, there was a long line of people waiting to purchase their tickets to the Opry. Thank goodness they didn't have to stand in that line, they already had their tickets in hand and could go right in. They kept their eyes peeled for stars that might be out and about...but didn't see anyone! Now to find their seats and get settled in for the show. They knew that Roy Acuff would probably be singing...he is a regular on the stage there...but weren't sure who else they would actually get to hear. They just missed getting to see Hank Williams, one of their favorites. He had actually died on New Year's Day that year. They did hear Roy Acuff like they thought they would. Then Porter Wagoner sang a couple of songs. Roy Acuff came back on stage and balanced a fiddle on his chin. The Foggy Mountain Boys also made an appearance Willie always loved Blue Grass Music, so it was a treat to hear this group perform with their guitars and banjos and their twangy vocals. _It really didn't matter who they got to see and hear sing, they were having a great time just taking in all their surroundings at the Opry, and were loving every minute of it. When the show was over, Helen and Willie walked back towards their hotel. They decided to stop by a little cafe and have a milk shake before they walked the rest of the way. Tomorrow they would be returning to Missouri and their routine. Even though they had a really good time with just the two of them, they were anxious to hug their kids and tell them all about Nashville. Comments Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
