Flip - Fall - Broken 12/12/2011
_The kids hadn't been at the playground for fifteen minutes until Linda decided that she could do some magical tricks on the top bar of the monkey bars. She was so sure that this was a possibility, she didn't think she needed anybody else with her. Sondra was swinging with Paula in her lap...Larry was pushing the merry go round with Jimmy holding on tight and Linda...well we know where Linda was... She was up there on the top bar all happy swinging from her knees when all of a sudden something went awry and she went flying to the ground and landed on her arm. Just when she thought she was queen of the monkey bars...she wasn't ...and she was having sharp pains in her arm like nothing she had ever felt before. Sondra, with Paula on her hip went running over and asked Linda if she was okay...she just whimpered and said "No...my arm hurts so bad!" Larry picked her up and carried her back to the house. Helen and Willie saw them coming and realized the way that Larry was running with Linda that something was terribly wrong. Helen couldn't believe that something could've already happened with them being gone for such a short time. But that thought quickly vanished as she looked at little Linda who was whimpering and holding her arm close to her side. She was being such a brave little girl, but her little arm was definitely broken. They left the other kids at Eunice and Roy's and took off to Sikeston to take Linda to Dr. Sergeants office. This was the same doctor that Helen got angry with when Jimmy was a baby because he wanted a Neurologist to treat her baby boy. But this was Linda's doctor and she knew he would know what to do. When Dr Sergeant took a look at Linda's arm he was pretty sure it was broken, but he did an x-ray anyway. Sure enough she had a bad break and would need it set and a cast put on it. Linda never did cry, just whimpered and sat on her daddy's lap. This day was a day that showed everyone that knew Linda that she was going to be a strong girl. She was brave throughout the whole procedure even though she was in so much pain. Since they were already in Sikeston, Willie took Helen and Linda home to Ruth Street before he headed back to Kewanee to pick up the other kids. The day that started out with fun and a visit with Grandma and Grandpa Rhodes ended with a white cast on Linda's right arm. If Linda had just thought about how high those monkey bars were she would be eating with her right hand instead of it resting in her lap while she tries to eat with her left.
