July 29, 1952...#5 has arrived!!! 12/04/2011

Helen was so happy to have Willie home with her and the kids...even if it meant living tight again!  They've had to go through worst than this in their ten plus years of marriage, so she knew that they would be just fine.  The stress of this pregnancy she was going through right now was too encompassing to think about that right now anyway.
It was Saturday July 26th and Helen was feeling some better, but was having to rest a lot more, she told Willie that she didn't think she could go to church tomorrow...she was just feeling too much pressure.  The last time she went to the doctor, he told her to stick close to home, because she could just drop this baby anytime... anywhere.  Having to have her bones popped back into place so many times during the past few months has made a believer out of her.  She and Willie got the bassinet cleaned up and ready for the new baby and put it beside the bed in their bedroom.

Linda had been outside playing while her mommy and daddy were doing their preparations for the baby.  Willie loved to tease Linda, and today was no different.  When she came inside, he told her that the baby had come while she was outside.  She got so excited and wanted to see the tiny baby right away.  Willie took her into the bedroom so she could look into the newly cleaned up bassinet and there inside it was big ole Jimmy.  She was so aggravated at her daddy.  He just laughed and laughed...and so did Jimmy!

On Tuesday, July 29, 1952, in the wee hours of the morning ( 2 a.m. to be exact), Helen woke Willie up and told him she was having hard contractions.  She was in labor.  They contacted Dr Wyatt and told him he should get there right away.  Willie quickly got up, set up the kitchen as the delivery room and woke up the kids to take them to his mom and dad's house.

While he was gone Lossy came over with a slop bucket (or a thunder mug) for Helen and stayed with her until Willie could get back.  Lossy was so scared that this baby was going to come before Willie or the doctor could get back.  She didn't know anything about delivering babies....Helen was a little worried too.

Willie got back home and as soon as he walked in the door, Lossy went waddling back to her little shack next door.  She had no intention of sticking around for this.  Willie started boiling water and got the clean linens out and ready for the doctor.  Now where is he?  He started running it through his head what he would do if Dr Wyatt didn't get here in time, he was sure he could handle it.

Finally the doctor came through the front door with his equipment in hand.  He set up the delivery table in the kitchen and wiped it down with disinfectant and Willie helped him get Helen on the table.  She laid back and with a mere two pushes...a baby girl came into the world with the healthiest cry ever.  Dr Wyatt had barely gotten the table up and Helen on it before baby girl Tollison made her appearance.  Helen and Willie were both in tears, they were just as amazed with this birth as they were with their first born, Larry, who was also born at home.  The doctor believed that this baby came so quickly because of her pelvic bones being popped open.  They were thankful that the doctor had made it in time before the baby dropped out.

What a precious little blue eyed baby girl!  They decided to name her after Willie's sister Polly.  She would be named Paula Bernice Tollison.  After Dr Wyatt left, they placed Paula in her bassinet and rested the remainder of the night.  They would go pick up the other kids, who were sound asleep at Grandma and Grandpa Tollison's house later in the morning.
