Oh My Gosh It's Hot 12/21/2011
The move went really well, but finding the time to get the air conditioner hooked up didn't go quite so well. It was the first part of August and buddy it was hot! The house was going to have to be wired for a 220 and that didn't just happen, it took some work. Willie and his helper, Larry, would have to figure this out, so they could all be cool. But for now, a window fan would have to be hooked up to keep the family cool...especially at night. During the day, the kids were playing out under the shade trees without a care in the world and didn't even realize how hot they were until they got thirsty. There was an outside spigot with a hose hooked up to it that they would turn on when they were thirsty. They would hold it facing up like a fountain and drink to their hearts content. I tell you what, that faucet was on a LOT during those sticky hot days. During the day if the window fan was going, which most of the time it was, they had to keep the little ones away from there, because the blades were exposed. That was a disaster waiting to happen. The kids stayed in the back yard most of the time, coming in only to eat or go to the bathroom. Larry spent most of his time out in the shed. He had decided this building out back was going to be his, and would be a place for him to get away from everyone else. Ever since he received his own bike for Christmas that year in East Prairie, he has loved to tinker with them. This shed would be a great place to do just that. He had big ideas...we'll have to see what he decides to do in another story. But for now, just know that he loved being out in that old shed. When the sun went down, the temperature cooled off a bit, but was still pretty dang hot in the house. It had heated up all day with the sun bearing down on it, so that window fan would have to be cranked up to high. The only problem with having a window "box" fan, it had to go in somebody's window. As it so happens, someone decided to put the fan in the girls bedroom window, and Sondra was none too happy about it. She said it wasn't fair that everyone else had a window open with cool air pulling through them and the girl's window had the fan in it. The boys were covered up with the cool breeze blowing across them. And the girls had to kick off their top sheet in order to stay cool because...Oh my gosh it was hot!
