Visit to Grandma and Grandpa Rhodes House 12/11/2011

As winter turned to spring, Helen and the kids were getting a little antsy to go somewhere.  It was a long weekend because South Grade School was out for their spring break (Easter was around the corner)  They talked dad into taking them to see Grandma and Grandpa Rhodes in Kewanee.  They had lived so close to Willie's parents since they had returned from Jonesboro, they had seen them a lot,  but had lived further away from her mom and dad making it harder to see them.  But since it was a long weekend, they wouldn't be in a rush.

_Paula was 9 months old now and was as chubby as could be.  She had the fattest little cheeks and when she smiled her eyes lit up.  All of her brothers and sisters loved her so much...she was their baby sister and loved making over her.  Helen was excited to see her mom and let her see all her Tollison grandbabies.  She knew how much her mom loved babies, so she was going to enjoy loving on Paula Pete.

When they pulled around the corner on the street taking them to Eunice and Roy's house, Helen and Willie couldn't help but think of the memories this little road conjured up.  There sat the school on the left where they had met and across the street was the apartment where Helen had spent so many lonely nights wishing Willie was home from the Navy.  The yard in front of the apartment was where Sissy and Larry were bitten by the dog and across the schoolyard toward the cotton gin is where Larry got his bottom wore out with a tree switch for taking off without telling anyone where he was.  When they got to the Rhodes' house, there sat Eunice in the porch swing where Willie had proposed to Helen, and across the street was the place where Larry broke his arm while getting a head of cabbage for his mom out of their garden at Mrs. Midget's place.  Wow!  So many memories.

_Grandma Rhodes was so happy to see her babies.  She hugged them all tight and told them she would make them something good for dinner. Cooking was how Eunice showed how much she loved them...she would cook and they would love her cooking.  I don't think they ever came to Grandma Rhodes' house that she wasn't wearing an apron.  That just sort of became part of her...what a sweet lady.

After they ate, the Kids wanted to go down the street to the School playground and play on the swings, the merry go round and the monkey bars.  Helen told them they could go, but to stay off the high bars.  She didn't want them to get hurt by falling to the hard ground and breaking something.  Larry could tell them a thing or two about falling on that hard ground.  Sondra held Linda and Jimmy's hand as they head up the street.   When they got to the playground, Linda took off and headed straight for those bars thinking she could do a quick flip on them and be fine.

As it turns out ...Linda was a little "too big for her britches" as they say.  She sat down on that top bar and swung down with her knees wrapped around the bar dangling high in the air...then proceeded to try her flip.

What do you suppose happened?
