Willie Wins A Nashville Trip!! 12/23/2011

Remember me telling you early on that Willie would make a good insurance guy because of his personality and his determination to be the best at that profession?  He was just the type of guy that you would trust with this kind of decision.  National Life Insurance felt lucky to have Willie on their team and because of all his hard work, he was rewarded by winning a trip to Nashville.

When Willie got off work today and headed to his home on Murray Lane in Sikeston, Missouri, he was excited to let Helen in on his news.  She was in the kitchen with her bib apron frying some bacon and putting a pan of biscuits in the oven.  She was making breakfast food for supper...one of Willie's favorites.  In just a few minutes he would be buttering up his biscuits, and pouring honey all over them to go with his scrambled eggs and bacon.

While she was hurrying to get the food on the table for her hungry family, Willie told her that he had a surprise for her...she looked at him with a "what are you up to" kind of look.  She knew that he had been working hard and was trying to win a trip of some sort, but she had forgotten all about it at the moment.  He finally told her..."I did it!  I won the trip to Nashville for us!"  She was so excited...they had never been on a trip together!  They both loved country music and Nashville was the capitol of country music...so perfect kind of trip!

Helen's excitement quickly turned to wondering who would keep the kids while they were gone.  The trip was for 3 days and 2 nights, so she would need to ask someone if the kids could spend a couple of nights with them.  Her first thought was to ask her mom and dad (Eunice and Roy) if they would mind the kids staying with them.  But just the thought of mentioning it to her dad, made her feel uneasy.  She just knew he would refuse to keep them.  He had told her before that she had decided to have all those kids, now she had to take care of them herself.  Helen never understood why he thought he had to be so mean about things.  She did decide to ask if Larry could stay there, but none of the other kids.  When Larry heard her talking about his staying there...he wasn't crazy about it...he didn't like the way his grandpa smelled like whiskey, and was always spittin in a can.  He did know though, that his cousin Bill lived close by and they could have fun during the day.

Helen decided she would ask her sister Louise if she would mind Sondra, Linda, Jimmy and Paula staying those two nights with her.  She knew that her sis would be happy to help her out, and it would be an adventure for her girls, Janet and Bonnie to play with Helen's girls.  What a relief to have a place for all the kids, now she could think about packing for her and Willie.

_They would be taking a bus ride to their motel in Nashville, but from that point they would have to walk anywhere they went.  There was no money for any extras.  The trip included bus fare, motel accommodations, a nice meal and  a concert at the Ryman Auditorium.  They were so excited!  She wondered who they'd see perform at the Ryman...it really didn't matter though... She and Willie were just excited to be going.

First things first...let's eat these "fresh out of the oven" biscuits for supper!
