Helen Going To Work and The Klutts 01/08/2012

Helen knew that in order for her family to have clothes to wear and money to pay the electricity bill, she would need to get a job.  She had experience working at Grabers, and knew that would help her in finding a position somewhere ... just where?
Having five children and needing to work can be a hard decision to make.  Helen did not want someone else keeping her babies, but would have to seek out someone she could trust.  First things first...get a job, then she'd find someone.

She put in her application at the Sears Catalog Store in downtown Sikeston and was called in for an interview.  They were impressed with her experience and hired her to be one of the phone operators in the back of the store.  She would answer the phone lines, take and place orders for customers who had seen an item in the catalog that they wanted.  She would also call customers to see if they were interested in any of the services that Sears had to offer.

Since Willie would be in school while Helen was working, there was no way around needing to take the kids to a babysitter.  This also meant Sissy would have to help out with chores around the house, as well as watch the little ones.  And you know what?  There was always plenty of chores with a large family because there was food needing to be cooked and a house needing to be picked up...and it seemed to Sondra that most of it fell on her shoulders.  With mom working, she stepped up and became very responsible and still kept up her school work.

One of the babysitters that Helen used was Mrs. Klutts!  Mr. and Mrs. Klutts were a sweet older couple that lived up the street from Willie and Helen, and were tickled when asked if they would babysit.  Mr Klutts was crazy about Paula and they both just loved her.  Paula loved them too and was so comfortable with them.  When Helen left her baby with them, she was happy that Paula didn't cry because she never liked leaving her unhappy.

As it turns out, Helen ended up being a little jealous of the Klutts because they were spending quality time with Paula that she was missing.
