Mr Twitty and Airport School 01/04/2012
Helen had enjoyed her time with Willie in Nashville, and now that she is home it is time to think about what to do next. She would apply for a job, but first she thought about something she could do for Willie. They were settled in their house on Murray Lane and it was really starting to feel like home. She dreamed of having something nicer one day, but for now this was a pretty nice home and her landlady was so sweet. On the first day of each month, they made sure that their rent of $50 was taken to her. Willie went out in the neighborhood faithfully every weekday working for National Life Insurance. This company really had a good one in him, but Helen could tell he was not content in what he was doing. He missed teaching, she just knew it. When he talked about his experienced with teaching, his face would light up. That is what he should be doing everyday, not walking the pavement for an insurance company. She was thankful for those that wanted to do those type of jobs, but this was not for Willie right now...he should be teaching other people's kids. She started thinking about what she could do to help make this happen for him. She decided to contact Mr. Twitty, the Superintendent for the Sikeston schools. If anyone would know of something that was available or becoming available, he would. It was through this contact that she found out that there was a position for the next school year at the Airport School teaching 7th grade. Without letting Willie know, she filled out the application for that position and sent it in to the school. With his previous experience, she was sure that he would at the very least be considered. In just a week or so, Willie got a letter from Mr. Twitty saying that he wanted to talk with him about a job at Airport School. Willie was amazed that he was considered for the position when he hadn't even applied. Helen never let on that she had secretly applied in his name. Mr Twitty was impressed with Willie and hired him for the coming school year to teach 7th graders. Comments Your comment will be posted after it is approved. Leave a Reply | _Author
