The Down Low on the Twitty/Tollison Connection 01/05/2012

Willie went out on his Insurance job with a different perspective this week.  He would only be doing this for a couple more weeks, then he would be getting his room set up at Airport School to teach 7th grade.  This would be both a relief and a challenge.  He would need to look over the curriculum and decide on the lesson plans that he would use to make sure his goals were met for the year.
I'm sure some of you are wondering why Willie was hired so quickly when he went for his interview.  Also, how did Helen know to send the application to Mr. Twitty?  There is some history between the Tollisons and Mr Twitty that warrants mentioning for our story to be complete.

Helen knew for some reason, when Mr Twitty saw Willie Tollison was applying for a position, he wouldn't just toss his application aside.  He would give it a second look.  Why was that?  In order to answer that question, we have to go back to high school...yep, that's right!  We have to go back to the days when Willie and Helen were those "Sweethearts of Kewanee High".   Mr Twitty knew them back then because he was Kewanee's High School Coach.

Willie ran track for Coach Twitty in high school.  The coach was so impressed with him and his determination.  Mr. Twitty took Willie to all the local track meets...he was basically the whole team.  The coach knew that if he took Willie to a track meet, they would come home with some type of recognition...either a medal or a trophy.

So to say that Mr Twitty knew Willie and his work ethic is not an exaggeration...it is a fact that couldn't be ignored when looking at his application when it came across his desk.  He knew that Willie had served in the military during war, and had taught school both at Laforge, MO and at Dogwood School in East Prairie.  All of this made him more than qualified to teach the 7th graders at Airport School.

Sondra and Larry would go to Airport School with their dad, and as it turns out Larry was going to have him as his teacher.  This should make for some interesting situations.  Larry knew his dad would be tough on him, and wouldn't show favoritism.  As a matter of fact he was sure that if a classmate received a paddling for misbehaving and got 2 "licks"...if he was caught doing the same thing...his would be doubled for sure.  He better tow the mark!

I wonder if he did?
