Helen Going To Work and The Klutts 01/08/2012
Helen knew that in order for her family to have clothes to wear and money to pay the electricity bill, she would need to get a job. She had experience working at Grabers, and knew that would help her in finding a position somewhere ... just where?

Of course I know Friday is spelled with an "F" but I try to be clever every once in a while! When I was home to celebrate mom's 90th birthday, Bobby and I went to some places that have been mentioned in Helen and Willie's story. Some of the places have been updated over the years (like Grandma and Grandpa Rhodes' old home place), and some are pretty run down (like the old Kewanee church and the Kewanee School)... but I thought you all might enjoy seeing these places as much as I did.
Willie went out on his Insurance job with a different perspective this week. He would only be doing this for a couple more weeks, then he would be getting his room set up at Airport School to teach 7th grade. This would be both a relief and a challenge. He would need to look over the curriculum and decide on the lesson plans that he would use to make sure his goals were met for the year.

Helen had enjoyed her time with Willie in Nashville, and now that she is home it is time to think about what to do next. She would apply for a job, but first she thought about something she could do for Willie. They were settled in their house on Murray Lane and it was really starting to feel like home. She dreamed of having something nicer one day, but for now this was a pretty nice home and her landlady was so sweet. On the first day of each month, they made sure that their rent of $50 was taken to her.

_Willie and Helen caught the bus in Nashville, Tennessee to head back to Sikeston, Missouri. They had enjoyed every minute of their time in Music City, but were more than anxious to get home to hug on their children. This was the first time that Helen had ever been away from her kids for any length of time except for when she was working. Happy 90th Birthday Helen!! 01/02/2012
_We will get back to Willie and Helen's story later, but today is a special blog about my mom and the fact that she will be turning 90 on January 3, 2012. That date is on a Tuesday, so we did a little celebrating early. I haven't written in my blog for the past few days, but going home to visit with mom and be a part of this monumental moment was more important. You know...turning 90 don't happen everyday...so I thought you might want to share in the celebration via the blog and pictures. Willie and Helen are having a great time in Nashville, Tennessee. Yesterday they nearly walked their legs off...but they didn't know when they would get to come back to the music city again. So they walked and walked and walked until they were exhausted. Today would be another day of walking, but they would need to get back to their room in time to get cleaned up for the show they were going to tonight at the Ryman!

Down the road from Grandpa and Grandma Rhodes, lived Aunt Louise and Uncle Ed. They had graciously agreed to let Paula, Linda and Sondra spend a couple of nights with them, while Helen and Willie were in Nashville. What an adventure this was going to be...playing with their cousins at their house! If there was fun to be found...they would find it.

Mom and Dad are enjoying all the sights and sounds of Nashville, TN making every moment count. Larry and Jimmy are trying their best to get to sleep on the feather bed in the back room of Grandma and Grandpa Rhodes house. It's always hard to get used to your surroundings when you are away from your own home. Jimmy was happy he was with his big brother and Larry did what he always does...took care of his little brother. He told him to close his eyes and before ya know it...it will be morning.

Willie had the bus tickets, the tickets to the show at the Ryman and the receipt for the hotel room in hand and was ready to take that trip to Nashville he'd won from National Life Insurance Company. First he and Helen needed to get their children settled in with those that would be taking care of them while they were gone. As it turns out, Grandma and Grandpa Rhodes were going to keep the boys, and Helen's sister, Louise would keep all three girls.
