Rag Curls 01/19/2012

Willie is teaching school and Helen is working at Sears, so they would still need to have a babysitter.  They had heard about a lady that just lived a street up from them and around the corner.  It was actually an older couple that not only loved kids, but was very good with them...

Rock On! 01/16/2012

I haven't posted anything since Friday...so I thought I better post a story today, or I would have a bunch of you mad at me!  LOL  I think today we'll have another story about Linda Bug.  Remember she is the one that was jumping on the bed and fell off.  She is also the one that was on a tall slide and did her infamous flip and fell and broke her arm (originally I said it was the "monkey bars", but she has since corrected me on that misstated fact...LOL)  What is she up to in today's story?  Well read on...

Change in the Inspiration Blog- but still Us 01/12/2012

I am making a change in the way I do the Inspiration Blog.  First of all - it may not be everyday...but I will keep writing about the Tollison family.  I am getting my stories now from my brothers and sisters as well as mom.  Since I am needing to contact each one for different segments of our lives, they may not all be in sequence.  I'll try my best to keep them all close to the same time period, just not the way that I was doing...taking you from year to year and in some cases month to month.  Having lost dad in 1993 and not being able to get any stories from him, getting stories from the kids and Helen is the next best thing.  We will do Dad proud in remembering our stories about him and mom.

I appreciate all the loyal followers and the new followers that are faithfully reading the blog.  Please don't be disappointed when there isn't a blog each day.  Makes me so happy that you are enjoying reading about Mom and Dad and our family.

I have started another blog that is just recipes and tips.  I will be working on it periodically as well as my home business "Shop N Save".

Living in Nashville keeps me in traffic as much as a couple of hours a day at times.  I love it here, but the traffic is for the birds LOL.  I want to do the blog justice, so I am going to slow it down a bit ... don't lose interest...they will be good...I promise!

We are going to back up a ways today to a time when Helen worked at the Sikeston Shoe Factory.  It is a time that was worth mentioning due to what happened after leaving her kids with a babysitter.

The Mumps times 2 01/10/2012

What's worse than having one of your babies sick and running a fever?  Mom being sick right along with them and not feeling like taking care of them....that is such a challenge!  I suppose you've guessed by now that Helen must've had an experience of struggling through being sick along with one of her children.  It could have happened more than once, but this was the worst.

The Shed Out Back 01/09/2012

Years ago, when kids misbehaved, their parents would ask them if they wanted to "take a trip to the woodshed"...meaning get a spanking.  Without a doubt, they knew if they didn't straighten up, they were taking that walk out back and coming back with a sore rump.  I'm sure most of you were never a problem and have always behaved.  Most of you always obeyed your parents and did exactly what was expected of you...right?   Yeah right!  Today I want to tell you about another use for a woodshed ..."Coal Shed" in this instance, that Larry discovered in the 50's.

Helen Going To Work and The Klutts 01/08/2012

Helen knew that in order for her family to have clothes to wear and money to pay the electricity bill, she would need to get a job.  She had experience working at Grabers, and knew that would help her in finding a position somewhere ... just where?

Of course I know Friday is spelled with an "F" but I try to be clever every once in a while!  When I was home to celebrate mom's 90th birthday, Bobby and I went to some places that have been mentioned in Helen and Willie's story.  Some of the places have been updated over the years (like Grandma and Grandpa Rhodes' old home place), and some are pretty run down (like the old Kewanee church and the Kewanee School)... but I thought you all might enjoy seeing these places as much as I did.

The Down Low on the Twitty/Tollison Connection 01/05/2012

Willie went out on his Insurance job with a different perspective this week.  He would only be doing this for a couple more weeks, then he would be getting his room set up at Airport School to teach 7th grade.  This would be both a relief and a challenge.  He would need to look over the curriculum and decide on the lesson plans that he would use to make sure his goals were met for the year.
